LOS ANGELES (September 6, 2007) – Three of the top personalities in the world of soccer, Bob Bradley, Decio de Maria and Alexi Lalas, will all make important announcements during the 10th anniversary of the Honda Symposium. Fútbol de Primera will also honor the Mexican Club Pachuca for their national and international successes this year. The event will take place at 9:30am on Thursday, October 4 at The Biltmore Hotel in downtown Los Angeles and is open to all media. Bob Bradley was named the Head Coach of the U.S. Men’s National Team earlier this year. Bradley began his tenure impressively, becoming the only coach to win his first three games and leading the team to the CONCACAF Gold Cup championship this summer, their second straight win at the tournament. Prior to accepting his current position, Bradley spent 12 successful years as head or assistant coach with various Major League Soccer teams, becoming the manager with the most victories in the league. He also earned the distinction of taking his teams to the playoffs every year of his tenure, including leading the Chicago Fire to win the U.S. Open Cup and MLS Cup in 1998, their debut season, and taking the expansion team Chivas USA from the worst record in the league to a third-place finish at the playoffs in 2005. He will speak about, “The New Generation of U.S. Soccer and His Approach to Making the Most Competitive U.S. National Team.” Decio de Maria, as General Secretary of the Mexican Football Federation, is in charge of developing and implementing programs to advance soccer in Mexico, working to improve the rules and regulations that govern the sport. He is responsible for the commercial aspects of the Federation, the administration and resources of the organization and also represents the body on an international level. Prior to his attaining his position with the Federation in 2004, de Maria was the Secretary General of the Ibero- American Telecommunications Organization (OTI), an organization that represents more than 50 Hispanic television companies in Latin America, Spain, Portugal and the United States. Earlier this summer, de Maria was designated a member of FIFA’s Players’ Status Committee. He will discuss the topic, “The Internationalization of Mexican Football: Present and Future.” Alexi Lalas, a former Honda Player of the Year Award winner and three time finalist, is currently the President and General Manager of the Los Angeles Galaxy where he has been instrumental in this summer’s transfer of international superstar David Beckham to the team. One of the most recognized personalities in the world of soccer, Lalas’s professional career as a player included time with the New England Revolution, the New York/New Jersey MetroStars, the Kansas City Wizards and his current club, the Los Angeles Galaxy. He also played for Padova in 1994, becoming the only American to ever play in Italy’s Serie A league. As a National Team player, Lalas ended his 7 year international career with 96 caps and nine goals. Prior to his current position at the Galaxy, Lalas was President and General Manager of the New York Red Bulls and spent a year as General Manager of the San Jose Earthquakes. He will talk about “The Impact of David Beckham on Soccer in the MLS; the State of the League Before and After His Arrival.” The Mexican Club Pachuca will receive a Special Presentation at this year’s Symposium. Fútbol de Primera will honor the Club for the national and international successes they have recently obtained, including their win against Club Guadalajara at the CONCACAF Champions Cup final, securing the team a place at the 2007 FIFA Club World Cup in Japan this December.
