Fútbol de Primera founder Alejandro Gutman first came to the
United States as a Fulbright Scholar and presently is Co-Chairman
of Fútbol de Primera. He is the
creator of the company's most renowned property, the Honda Player
of the Year Award, which is recognized as the most prestigious award
in American soccer.
As a former professional player who has played in the European Cup,
his insights of the game rank him as one of the country's top soccer
analysts. He has contributed his writing expertise to the Spanish-language
weekly Esto of Mexico, As of Spain, and had a weekly
column in Nuevo Mundo of the San Jose Mercury News. As part
of Fútbol de Primera, Alex has covered the 1990, 1994 and 1998
World Cups and also anchored for 8 years a daily sports report on Telemundo station
KSTS in San Francisco and San Jose, California.
He is recognized as one of the top professionals in Spanish-language
media and was nominated in 1997 and 2000 as one of the Top 100 Most
Influential Hispanics in the nation.
