LOS ANGELES (October 9, 2002) - Carlos Hermosillo, who recently retired as a player after a brilliant 17 year career, announced at today's Honda Symposium that he will now begin a one-year executive internship with Spanish club Real Madrid. Hermosillo's 34 goals for Mexico's National Team and 321 goals in Mexico's first division both rank second on Mexico's list of all-time leading goal-scorers. In all Hermosillo played in both the 1986 and 1994 World Cups and starred for Mexican club teams America, Cruz Azul, Monterrey, Necaxa, Atlante and Chivas de Guadalajara as well as Standard Liege in Belgium. He also played for two years with Major League Soccer's Los Angeles Galaxy. After thanking Fútbol de Primera and Honda, Hermosillo said "It has been an honor for me to play professional soccer for so many years. Loyalty and professionalism have guided me and enabled me to enjoy my career. I hope that something from my career will serve as an example for young people and their families." In the next few weeks Hermosillo will travel to Madrid where he will begin a one-year course in sports management, focusing on soccer. As part of his studies he will also begin an executive internship with Spanish club Real Madrid. "I have decided to continue my career with the best club in the world, Real Madrid," said Hermosillo.
