Each of these executives is an authority on a different aspect of the game in North America, which will make this year's Honda Symposium an outstanding opportunity to listen to these expert opinions about the state of the sport throughout the region. For more than a decade, Chuck Blazer has been the General Secretary of CONCACAF (the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football). During this time he has helped oversee the expansion of the Confederation and the establishment of new offices in New York. In 1996 he became the first American-born member of FIFA's Executive Committee. He served as the Chairman of the 2003 FIFA Confederations Cup Organizing Committee, and currently serves on several other different FIFA committees. Mr. Blazer will speak about the topic "CONCACAF in the New Millennium: Thoughts on the New International Calendar and Integration with CONMEBOL." Mr. Garber became Commissioner of Major League Soccer in August 1999 after a 16-year career with the National Football League. During the last four years he has been instrumental in advocating the development of soccer specific stadiums, attracting and retaining sponsors and investors in the league, and expanding the television exposure of MLS. He is also a member of the U.S. Soccer Federation Executive Committee and the U.S. Soccer Foundation Board of Directors, and will discuss the topic "An Introspective Look at MLS." Earlier this year Guillermo Cañedo White became the newest member of the CONCACAF Executive Committee. He is also currently Executive President of OTI (Organización de Telecomunicaciones Iberoamericanas) and is responsible for the international business of Grupo Televisa, where he previously served in several different capacities including Chairman of the Board and Chief Corporate Officer. He also has extensive experience in sports marketing and licensing, and was involved in the 1986 FIFA World Cup and the 1988 Summer and Winter Olympic Games. Mr. Cañedo White will travel to Los Angeles in order to speak about "Mexico and its Role in CONCACAF." In keeping with the tradition of recognizing individuals who have made significant contributions to the development of the game in the U.S., Fútbol de Primera and Honda will also honor former U.S. National Team defender Marcelo Balboa at this year's Honda Symposium. Balboa, the 1994 Honda Player of the Year, ended his outstanding playing career earlier this year and now works as a television broadcaster. Created in 1998 by Fútbol de Primera and sponsored by American Honda Motor Company Inc., the Honda Symposium features soccer's foremost executives, coaches and players leading an open forum on the major issues in soccer. Past participants include FIFA Senior Vice President Julio Grondona, FIFA Vice President and Spanish Federation President Angel Villar, FIFA's Dr. Michel D'Hooghe, former FIFA Director of Communications Keith Cooper, former U.S. Soccer President Alan Rothenberg, Executive Vice President of U.S. Soccer Sunil Gulati, AEG President Tim Leiweke and World Cup coaches Bora Milutinovic, Javier Aguirre, Marcelo Bielsa and Steve Sampson. © 2000-2008, Fútbol de Primera.
