Three Finalists for the 2004 Honda Player of the Year Award To Be Revealed During the October 25th Festivities.

LOS ANGELES (October 6, 2004) - Two of the most intriguing personalities in the world of international soccer will make important announcements during their presentations at the 7th Honda Symposium on Monday, October 25 at The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.

Danny Jordaan, CEO of South Africa's successful bid to host the 2010 FIFA World Cup, will discuss how earlier this year South Africa won the right to host the world's biggest sporting event. Additionally, Jorge Vergara, owner of popular Mexican club Chivas and new MLS team C.D. Chivas USA, will reveal plans for the newest professional sports franchise in Los Angeles.

Also, in keeping with the tradition of recognizing those who have made significant contributions to the development of the game, Fútbol de Primera and American Honda Motor Co., Inc. will honor Colombian club Once Caldas and Mexican club Pachuca for their work off the field.

Furthermore, for the first time in the history of the Honda Symposium, the three finalists for the 2004 Honda Player of the Year Award will be announced during the event. The Honda Player of the Year Award is presented annually to the best player on the U.S. National Team as chosen by the media and is widely recognized as the most prestigious award a member of the U.S. National Team can receive. The winner will be revealed in November at the annual Honda Player of the Year Award luncheon.

As Chief Executive Officer of South Africa's bid to host the 2006 and 2010 FIFA World Cup, Danny Jordaan has worked tirelessly to bring the world's biggest sporting event to South Africa. Earlier this year his efforts were rewarded when FIFA selected South Africa as the host of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, marking the first time it has been awarded to an African country. Mr. Jordaan will speak about "The First FIFA World Cup in Africa: The Successful Bid and Our Expectations for 2010."

Two years ago Jorge Vergara entered the world of international soccer by acquiring one of the most popular teams in Mexico, Club Deportivo Guadalajara, or Chivas. Since then he has added top Costa Rican club C.D. Saprissa to his holdings, and starting next season, a new Major League Soccer team named C.D. Chivas USA will play in Los Angeles. Mr. Vergara, whose titles include President of Chivas and founder of Grupo Omnilife, amongst others, will discuss the topic "Chivas USA: Goals for 2005 and Beyond."

Earlier this year Once Caldas made soccer history by becoming only the second Colombian team to ever win South America's most historic club championship, the Copa Libertadores. As a result, they have earned the right to face UEFA Champions League winners F.C. Porto in the Intercontinental Cup in December. Once Caldas is actively committed to assisting in the development of the city of Manizales, the region and the country as a whole, and we are pleased to recognize the club for its deep involvement in the community and to congratulate them on their remarkable season.

Founded in 1901, Pachuca is the oldest soccer club in Mexico. In recent years it has become a model for other teams to emulate through its newly created "Universidad de Fútbol," the Center for Soccer and Sports Sciences, and its "Escuelas de Fútbol" or soccer schools. It is an honor to recognize the hard work of the club and its President, Jesús Martínez, during this year's festivities.

Created in 1998 by Fútbol de Primera and sponsored by American Honda Motor Co., Inc., the Honda Symposium features soccer's foremost executives, coaches and players leading an open forum on the major issues in soccer. Past participants include FIFA Senior Vice President Julio Grondona, FIFA Vice President and Spanish Federation President Angel Villar, FIFA's Dr. Michel D'Hooghe, former FIFA Director of Communications Keith Cooper, CONCACAF General Secretary Chuck Blazer, former U.S. Soccer President Alan Rothenberg, Executive Vice President of U.S. Soccer Sunil Gulati, CONCACAF Executive Committee Member Guillermo Cañedo White, AEG President Tim Leiweke, MLS Commissioner Don Garber and World Cup coaches Bora Milutinovic, Javier Aguirre, Marcelo Bielsa and Steve Sampson.
